The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs (DVC AA) Kampala International University (KIU), Dr. Kezaabu Annette Kasimbazi challenged first year students joining the University to purpose to get first class degrees as their number one priority after completion of their academic programs.
She said this on Friday 9th, February 2018 while giving her key note address during the orientation of first year students admitted into the January 2018 intake. Also present at the orientation meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Extension (DVC RIE), Professor George W. Nasinyama, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration (DVC FA), Dr. Busingye D. Janice, Dean of Students, Mrs. Jovia Karwana, various College Principles, Deans and Heads of Departments as well as the District Police Commander, Kabalagala, SP Isaac Mugwerwa.
Dr. Kasimbazi recounted that most students get excited about joining the University hence forgetting the sole purpose and objective of them being there in the first place. “You come here to study as the number one priority: some of you then form associations that take most of your time, and finally you end up with a pass degree!” She said.
The DVC AA, who also represented the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, also cautioned students to be careful with their tuition, highlighting that some students recklessly handle their tuition. She tasked them to always bank any money meant for the University. “Do not spend your fees on betting or partying, because there are consequences.” She emphasized that KIU does not want to become an obstacle to the student’s academic success and advised the students to play their part diligently.
Before leading the students into taking an oath of allegiance, Dr. Kasimbazi strongly urged them to be vigilant and stay safe at the University. “When you’re careless or reckless; you not only ruin your life but you ruin your communities hope as well as your sibling’s and parents hope, be vigilant and be responsible!” she said.
