The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, has asked Ugandans to work together and support each other during this crisis.
Besigye’s appeal comes shortly after Uganda confirmed five new Coronavirus cases.
On Thursday 26th March 2020, Besigye stated that Ugandans need each other during these times, so as to overcome the pandemic.
“The next level, as I have pointed out, is helping ourselves. I would appeal for people to stay at home. We also need to help each other maximally during this crisis. We must work together and support each other. If you have food, please share with neighbours,” he said.
He also added to say that the world needs supreme power to calm the situation. He urged Ugandans to resort to prayers as all efforts to fight the pandemic seem to have failed.
“What every Ugandan should do is to kneel down and pray. This is a matter that is beyond our competences. We need God; we need supreme power to reign over such a hopeless situation,” he said.
The retired doctor also encouraged medical personnel to continue working hard through these tough times.
“If you need us who are no longer active in service of the medical profession; if you need me, I will come and support. Let’s help the country to overcome the crisis,” added the retired Dr. Besigye.
His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda, has also gone an extra mile to ban public transport means for 14 days so as to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
“The government has decided to suspend, for 14 days, all public transport, including all taxis, coasters, buses, passenger trains, tuk-tuks and boda-bodas. Private cars shall be allowed to move on the road but they shall not have more than three people in the car, including the driver,” he directed.
With the increasing cases, the President says he does not want to take more chances.
This was after the Director General for Health Services at Uganda Health Ministry, Dr. Henry Mwebesa announced five new COVID-19 cases bringing the total up to 14, on Wednesday, 25th March 2020.
